Discovery Christian School was co-founded in 2011 by Wendi Teten and Michele Thames with a vision to provide families with a Christ-centered education that combines rigorous academics with a strong Biblical worldview. Their desire was to create a school where students would be challenged academically while developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and learning to view every subject through the truth of God's Word.

 

The school's inaugural year began with just 21 students and three staff members. Classes were held at Restoration Church in Florence, Mississippi, serving students in Kindergarten (K4) through sixth grade in multi-age classrooms.

 

During the second year, enrollment more than doubled to 51 students and the faculty expanded to seven staff members while continuing to operate from Restoration Church. By the third year, enrollment had nearly doubled again to 99 students, making it necessary to relocate. Discovery Christian School moved to the former campus of Wesley College in Florence, providing room for continued growth.

 

The fourth year brought enrollment to approximately 140 students and marked the beginning of the school's athletic program. As enrollment continued to increase, the school added one grade level each year, eventually becoming a fully accredited Pre-K3 through 12th-grade college preparatory Christian school. Discovery Christian School celebrated the graduation of its first senior class in 2017, a significant milestone in fulfilling the founders' vision.

 

In partnership with Restoration Church, Discovery Christian School later purchased the 33-acre campus, creating a permanent home and providing opportunities for future expansion. As the school community continued to grow, so did its athletic offerings, expanding to include numerous competitive programs for both boys and girls.

 

Today, Discovery Christian School serves over 300 students from Pre-K3 through 12th grade and employs approximately 60 faculty and staff members. The school has grown into a highly respected independent Christian school, known for academic excellence, strong Biblical integration, leadership development, and a family-centered culture.

 

The campus has continued to evolve with expanded classroom space, enhanced playgrounds, a growing athletic program, and the school's first home football field and baseball field. 

 

Looking ahead, Discovery Christian School remains committed to strategic growth. Future plans include constructing additional academic facilities, expanding athletic and fine arts opportunities, enhancing student support services, and continuing to develop the campus to serve generations of students. Every step of the school's journey has been guided by its mission to partner with Christian families in equipping students academically, spiritually, physically, and socially so they may impact the world for God's glory.
